Sustainability
More than just an over used buzz word, Sustainabilty has become an integral part of modern design and construction. Not only does sustainable architecture help to cut costs long term and raise environmental awareness it can also provide a unique challenge to architects, designers and contractors. From college campuses to urban laboratories, sustainability and green building are everywhere.
Even a building component as simple as a window can make use of a myriad of sustainable practices. Sierra Pacific Windows begins from the ground up with green forestry practices. As the largest private forest landowner in the United States, Sierra Pacfic Windows works above environmental requirements to keep forests healthy, diverse and sustainable. Once wood has been harvested, no part of the tree is wasted. Particle board and beauty bark are only some of the products manufactured with biproducts from the lumber. Bark can even be used to help generate energy, excess energy is sold into the community to increase local sustainability. Sierra Pacific has also partnered with the Hatchet Ridge wind farm to provide even more sustainable power for local communities. Windows manufactured by Sierra Pacific contain no VOC's (volatile organic compounds) and make use of recycled materials. Waste from shipping and manufacturing is recycled, including tires, oil and batteries. Sierra Pacific Windows can help to accumulate points for LEED, NAHB and Green Globes programs. Sierra Pacific Windows are featured in our Client Project the Angel Fire Country Club. While this spiel may seem like an advertisement for Sierra Pacific, we are truly excited to see a sustainable product like this one being used.
